State Police Arrest Two Following Stolen Vehicle Pursuit and Residential Burglary in New Castle

The Delaware State Police arrested 20-year-old Jakyi Williams, from Wilmington, Delaware, and 19-year-old Halil Taylor, of New Castle, Delaware after they fled from troopers in a stolen vehicle and Taylor broke into an occupied residence early Wednesday morning in New Castle.

On August 5, 2026, at approximately 12:10 a.m., a trooper patrolling East Basin Road near North Dupont Highway conducted a registration check on an Infiniti QX60. The check revealed that the vehicle had recently been reported stolen to the New Castle County Police Department. Troopers attempted to stop the Infiniti as it approached the intersection of Bellanch Street and 14th Street. The driver failed to stop, and a pursuit followed.

Troopers pursued the Infiniti through several area streets before it crashed into a parked trailer on West 7th Street near Center Street. The driver, later identified as Williams, and the passenger, later identified as Taylor, fled from the vehicle on foot. Troopers located Williams in a nearby alley and took him into custody without further incident.

While troopers continued searching for Taylor, they learned that a resident in the 600 block of Clymer Street reported that someone had entered their home and was attempting to access a bedroom where their infant was sleeping. Responding law enforcement officers located Taylor inside the residence and took him into custody without further incident. No one inside the home was injured.

A subsequent search of the Infiniti resulted in the seizure of more than 140 grams of suspected marijuana.

Williams was taken to Troop 2 where he was charged with the below listed offenses, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court, and committed to the Department of Correction on a $2,505 cash bond.

Taylor was taken to Troop 2 where he was charged with the below listed offenses, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court, and committed to the Department of Correction on a $22,701 cash bond.
